Importance of Date Selection in Feng Shui

January 21st, 2009 · No Comments

How important is date selection in Feng Shui? Date selection is in fact one of the most important factor in Feng Shui. Often, date selection can be considered s a single subject when you learn or study Feng Shui. Without a good date selected for the execution of Feng Shui, your Feng Shui setup might seems to have no effect at all, or worst of all, bad effects. Most of these bad effects are caused by Sui Po or San Sha (3 killings) of the date or time used to activate the Feng Shui setup or changes. Hence if the Feng Shui setup or changes are done on inauspicious date or time, it will likely brings misfortune to him/her.

There are however plenty of date selection methods out there each with its strength and weakness. Just to list a few date selection systems here:

  • Xuan Kong Da Kua Date Selection
  • Great Sun Date Selection
  • Five Elements Date Selection
  • 4 Pillars Date Selection
  • 9 Stars Date Selection
  • Dong’s Date Selection
  • Qi Men Dun Jia Date Selection
  • So under what situations are is date selection required? Generally, people use date selections for all sorts of events including start of new businesses, property developments, business negotiations, house renovations, shifting of beds, setting up Feng Shui changes, burials, etc.

Some Feng Shui masters tend to suggest to their clients the appropriate changes to their home or working environment without suggesting the date and time to perform these changes. So the next time you engage a Feng Shui master to perform an audit, do remember to ask for an auspicious date to maximise the good effects.

Pilates for Stretching and Toning the Muscles

    January 18th, 2009 · No Comments

Founded by Joseph Pilates, the Pilates Exercise Method is one of the most popular fitness trends today. Pilates is an exercise method that combines different body movements that will strengthen, stretch, and control the muscles and body. It uses breathing, concentration, and core exercises to accomplish these goals.

The Pilates Method of Exercise seeks to improve the over-all health and well-being of its participants. The mind works in conjunction with the muscles to strengthen the back and abdomen, or core muscles and increase flexibility there. Another benefit is that it increases lung capacity, because exercises incorporate deep breathing while exercising.

For many years, it has been gathering the momentum of increases popularity. The rich and famous seem to be drawn to the Pilates Method, with Marissa Tomei, Jennifer Aniston, and Julia Roberts, among others who are practicing and loving the Pilates Method. So, why are so many people turning to Pilates to get fit? If there are so many famous people and others using it, Pilates must have some great benefits.

There are a couple of different ways to exercise using this Method. One way involves primarily the floor exercises, which are less expensive and more convenient than conventional classes. The only equipment needed to practice the floor exercises is a floor mat and a trainer or video. If you can’t afford a personal trainer, then you need to go with the video option. There are many reliable video programs available now with certified Pilates instructors doing the teaching. Be cautious when working without a trainer because the Pilates exercises could cause injury if done improperly.

The other way to exercise is to join a gym that has Pilates machines and equipment and regular classes and certified instructors on staff. These types of gyms usually involve some sort of membership with monthly or yearly fees.

Whichever way you choose to exercise using the Pilates Method, you need to be comfortable, so wear light clothes, such as tights and a tank top. You should stay focused when the instructor teaches you how to breath and move properly. There is no way to accomplish your goals if you do not stay focused and disciplined enough to do the exercises the right way.

Any participant should begin the program with the simplest of routines, working his way up to more advanced and complex routines. Using this method, you will be less likely to suffer an injury while exercising.

The Pilates Method of Exercise focus mainly on increasing strength and flexibility, so two 50 minute sessions only burn about 250 calories. Therefore, you need to combine Pilates with some sort of cardiovascular exercises, like fast walking or swimming, that will burn more calories for optimum health.

You shouldn’t join the Pilates Method of Exercise just because it’s the popular thing to do. If you participate for those reasons, you will fail to achieve any long-term fitness goals. However, if you stick with the program and stay focused, it will help you by conditioning your muscles and mind. You will soon began to see subtle changes in your muscle tone and flexibility, which will make your daily tasks easier, your body stronger, and your mind calmer. The Pilates Method of Exercise is a great workout with many benefits for anyone.

    The LA Rulebook

    January 17th, 2009 · No Comments

There should be a rule book for people living in Los Angeles. I’ve lived my entire life here, and I find that I still make horrific faux pas in the most embarrassing ways. This book should be offered at all LA book stores, and it should cover behavior, LA-speak, personal facades, and the LA club scene. Every page should expound on dos and don’ts of the city. Why? Because there’s no city like LA, and there are no people groups like Los Angelenos. The kind of eccentricities and embarrassing scenarios one encounters here can’t be learned intuitively anywhere else. The reason is obvious: no other city has Hollywood. Yes, Hollywood. Breeder of fame, fortune, and political power.

As you know, it’s not uncommon to see the odd celebrity doing mundane tasks around town. We’re nearly used to it…or at least we play it off like we are. You know the LA drill. Don’t stare, take a picture secretly and go one with your life. That’s all well and good unless you don’t know they’re famous.

Cut to: Mark Edward Lewis sitting in a cafe in Burbank that he’s never been to. In walks an exotic brunette with short hair, spaghetti strap top, bright blue eyes and a saunter four feet wide.

Cut to reversal: Mark is doing everything wrong. He’s staring at her, not because she’s so striking, but because he thinks he knows her. He’s so sure of it, that when this babe looks back at him, he doesn’t flinch. He’s sure she’ll recognize him. Her frown, her wince and her look of “in your dreams, buddy” doesn’t phase him. He leaves his stool and ambles in her direction. Four feet from his fingers tapping her bare shoulder, Mark has a flicker of a memory.

Cut to Flashback: His living room, a television, late night channel surfing, seeing her chiseled body smashing thugs wearing black. The bumper before commercial reads: “VIP.” Back to cafe and a medium shot of Mark’s hand inches away. He yanks his hand back as though from a snake. His face turns shades of red, and he slinks back to his stool muttering hindu grace. No, he doesn’t know her. He had simply channel surfed onto one of television’s most exploitative and sexist shows. He’s ashamed he even knows this woman’s face at all, but he’s relieved that he didn’t make a fool of himself and repeat the most used celebrity face-slap pick-up line in the LA club scene: “Hi. I think I know you from somewhere.” Ugh.

Yes, it was Natalie Raitano. Yes, it really happened. No, I didn’t get her number. The lesson: if you think you know someone in LA (and they’re gorgeous), it’s okay to cross into their line of sight so they see you, but honestly, they don’t know you. Making this mistake with a network television star is relatively harmless compared to the more incriminating scenarios you could find yourself in…

Mark Edward Lewis is an award winning Hollywood director of commercials, films and television. He has also written music for films and television for the last 18 years. Mark’s mission is to move millions of people throughout the world into living the life they love. Media is his main outlet for this. However, bringing the genders together in peace and powerful communication is his means.

Celebrities Who Are Obsessed With Plastic Surgery

    January 15th, 2009 · No Comments

Hollywood is known for its outrageous celebrities. They might have started out as actors or actresses, but there are some celebrities who become famous just for their appearance. For those who are in the spotlight, the pressure is on them to look as good as possible.

So, it comes as no surprise to people that there are some celebrities who really are obsessed with plastic surgery. When you think about plastic surgery in fact, you might even automatically equate it with the Hollywood lifestyle. While some celebrities look better for it, there are others who just look ridiculous.

Perhaps one of the most notable celebrities (if that’s what you want to call her) who is obsessed with plastic surgery is Joan Rivers. The woman must be in her seventies now, and it’s obvious she’s tried to look like she’s forever in her thirties. No, she doesn’t look her true age, but she doesn’t exactly look natural either. Specifically, her face is forever frozen in ghastly smile. No wonder she decided to make fun of the work she’s had done.

The most drastic example of plastic surgery is the case of Jocelyn Wildenstein, a socialite. She started off looking quite attractive, but then decided to ruin all that by looking like a cat. So, she had her face restructured. Yes, now she looks quite feline, but she also looks quite ridiculous too.

Another celebrity who, though not obsessed with cosmetic work but still looks silly, is Kenny Rogers. He always taught us that “You gotta know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em”. However, it’s obvious that he didn’t know his limits when he got a facelift and ended up looking too smooth. It can’t be a good thing to look like you’re perpetually surprised, can it? Luckily, he’s said that he’s going to have his face fixed again.

Of course, who could forget Cher? She doesn’t look horrible, but she’s definitely trying too hard to reclaim her youth. She’s clearly had facial implants and face lifts to augment her already exotic features. Take a look at early Cher, and compare her to the present-day Cher. Didn’t she look better before?

A case of cosmetic work that might or might not have happened is Sophia Loren. She’s in her late sixties now, but she looks even better than she did when she was in her twenties! She says she credits her good genes for her youthful appearance. However, that doesn’t stop people from thinking that she’s had work done. Whether she has or she hasn’t, she looks fabulous.

The key to good cosmetic work is to have it done, but to keep people guessing like Sophia Loren has. The best cosmetic results are the ones that look the most natural. You want to turn back the clock a decade at most - not fifty years like some celebrities have attempted to do. So, if you’re considering having a procedure done, you definitely should check out the surgeon’s portfolio first. After all, you want to look better, not worse!

More information on plastic surgery procedures such as male breast reduction and a plastic surgeon in your area is just a click away.

titleMusic With Staying Power/titlepHave you ever wondered why some music just seems to have staying power? Like the energizer bunny, it keeps on going and going. Take the recent Grammy Awards for example. The Rolling Stones and ex-Beatle Paul McCartney were both nominated. Paul even gave his first live performance at a Grammy awards ceremony this year./ppI remember the days when there was a constant debate raging over which group was the greatest- The Rolling Stones or The Beatles. These two super-groups reigned supreme. Many loyal fans took sides in this debate and were fully convinced that it was itheir/i favorite band which made the best music./ppFor me, it was simple. I loved the Stones, but the Beatles were by far my favorite group. Afterall, when the Beatles were beginning to see the effect their music was having on the kids of their generation (known as iBeatlemania/i) the Stones were also charting with a song called, I Wanna Be Your Man. But it just so happens that Lennon-McCartney wrote this song and gave it to The Stones as a favor. Later, when The Beatles masterful Sgt. Pepper album was released in 1967, The Stones released an album shortly after which many considered to be a copycat version of Sgt. Pepper./ppHere is another interesting fact to consider. The Beatles stopped giving live perfomances after their concert at Candlestick Park in San Fransisco on August 29, 1966. They decided they wanted to spend more time in the recording studio and just make music. Many people thought they were crazy and would quickly lose their fan base and popularity if they stopped giving live performances. They didnt listen. What happened as a result? They kept cranking out hit songs and their popularity grew even more. The question that was constantly on everyones lips back then was, when are the Beatles going to give another concert?/ppNow, this is not to take anything away from The Rolling Stones. After The Beatles officially broke up, The Stones became my favorite group for awhile. I spent a lot of time listening to their music and saw them in concert three times. I even got back stage once. But they never inspired me to think deeper about life, or to question why. The Beatles did. I began a spiritual journey in search of Truth (which I eventually found in Jesus) largely due to the impressions and impact which The Beatles had made on me./ppMusically speaking, these two super-groups definitely had, and continue to have, staying power. I still get students young and old who want to learn their songs on the guitar. The recent Grammy nominations also reveal that the creative juices of Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones are still flowing and will probably continue to do so for some time yet. The lesson we can learn from this is that good music never dies. And I, for one, am really glad that Paul idid/i finally pass the audition./ppFREE Reprint Rights - You may publish this article in your e-zine or on your web site as long as you include the following information:/ppKathy Unruh is a singer/songwriter and webmaster of bABC Learn Guitar/b. titleFilm Review of Southland Tales (2007)/titlepNothing an eight ball, a porn star and a tattoo parlor cant handle./ppThe dreaded sophomore slump. How do you follow up your first film (Donnie Darko), a multilayered psychological science fiction thriller about time travel, a tangent universe and a giant bunny called Frank! A film that won loads of awards, lauded with critical praise and developed a rabid cult fan base! Well, you follow it up with a comedy about the apocalypse naturally!/ppWhere to begin. An amnesiac schizophrenic action film star who thinks hes written a screenplay about a cop who figures out the rotation of the world is slowing at a rate of .0000006 miles per hour? A porn star with psychic powers who is involved in the blackmailing of a powerful republican senators family? A supposedly neo-marxist twin posing as his twin bother cop, whose reflection in the mirror is consistently out of step with him? In the words of the director, Southland Tales is an insane apocalyptic tapestry, weaving together such contemporary themes as our obsession with celebrity and over-reaction to terror, reliance on fossil fuels, as well as the Book of Revelation the second coming of Christ. All in an alternate version of the future./ppYou have to give Richard Kelly credit, for his long awaited follow up to Donnie Darko, he certainly came out swinging for the fence. This is no paint by numbers Hollywood effort./ppWhile Southland Tales is more than a bit mad (no doubt many people will turn it off after the first few minutes) Richard Kellys script does a great job of capturing the madness of the times. It manically satirises political extremism, the absurdity of modern celebrity culture, aggressive American foreign policy and the erosion of civil liberties to name a few. Much like looking at how the world seems today, watching Southland Tales, the viewer never really understands just whats going on! The film feels like the love-child of Dr. Strangelove and Mulholland Drive. Richard Kelly certainly strives to achieve the levels of reflective black comedy of Stanley Kubricks satirical classic and he certainly has a knack for David Lynchs surrealism, but he just seems to try cram too much into a single film./ppThis brings me to the biggest flaw of the entire endeavour. If Southland Tales feels half baked, thats because weve only been shown half of it. Southland Tales only depicts the last 3 chapters in Kellys 6 chapter project (the other 3 chapters having been released in graphic novel form only). Asking the audience to try interpret a pretty weird film after effectively depriving them of the entire first half, is a big ask and it has to make you wonder, what were they thinking!/ppIts a shame really, because despite the lack of true understanding as to what was going on, I personally found Southland Tales compulsive viewing. Apart from the desire to try figure out, just what was going on, most of the cast put in good performances (particular praise has to be given to Seann William Scott, who finally casts aside his Stifler persona) and some of the satire is extremely accurate and funny (news programming sponsored by Bud Light Hustler). By showing us an extreme version of the modern world, Kelly raises just as many questions about the world we live in today, as he does about the plot. No mean feat./ppSouthland Tales is definitely a thinker. If you dont dismiss it right off, its a film you might well watch again, spend the next few days pondering or discussing with your friends, appreciating it more and more as the plot details being to click into place. Its no masterpiece, but sometimes its better to watch a film that makes you think about the way the world is, rather than one that tries to tell you./ppSpittinFlicks.com is a new a target=_new href=http://www.spittinflicks.comFilm Forum/a and a target=_new href=http://www.spittinflicks.com/filmreviewsFilm Reviews/a site that is trying to bring together a community of film lovers./pbrbr

Movie Review - The Butterfly Effect

    December 16th, 2008 · No Comments

My Thoughts on Movie: “The Butterfly Effect (2004)”

Technically the “Butterfly Effect”, means the “sensitive dependence on initial conditions”. And whole movie revolve around this theory.
Directors: Eric Bress, J. Mackye Grubers
Cast: Ashton Kutcher, Amy Smart and other brilliant actors sorry I couldn’t name them all.

Even before starting to comment on film, guys this is one of the most watch movies and not only to watch but also for archiving it’s DVD. Its thrilling experience to watch this movie. Well written, well directed, brilliantly acted film. Film always keeps you guessing what’s next, keeps you interested all the time. So bravo for cast and crew, director, producer, technicians everyone.
This is a story of a boy growing up in a small town with his single working mom and his friends. He suffers from memory blackouts and more importantly something bad always seems to happen during these blackouts. He has habit of writing all these incidents down as much as he can remember. As he grows up it gets lesser until he seems to have recovered. One day at college he starts to read one of his old diaries, and suddenly a flashback hits him and he can recollect what happened in one of those blackouts. Not only that he also finds the way change the things all over again and fix things again. But how much hw tries to fix the things situation always worsen. And he finds himself in big mess and in Asylum where his father used to be for same reasons.

Every frame of this film is so thought of, its amazingly brilliant story, brilliant editing and it has perfect pace to keep drama going. All the actors gets opportunity to play so many different shades in single roles and they does it so effortlessly not only by appearance, facial expression, accent but also with body language. This movie has little bit of everything drama, romance, comedy, psychedelic fantasy, science fiction.

In the end you might feel that it is just imagination, a fantasy but the theory stays with you successfully. Like when I thinks today I am an engineer but in my teens if I had decide to be a Doctor or a Banker or anyone else for each condition my life would have been so much different. My friends, my workplace, even the way I think now, would have been so much different that I won’t have recognize myself. What do you think?

As for rating I’ll give 10/10 points.

Don’t forget to watch it. I heard there is sequel to this I can’t wait to watch it.
